Situated in the middle of the German Wine Road, Dr. Josef Köhr crafts unique wines grown at the estate’s traditional vineyard plots in Ruppertsberg (Pfalz) and its surroundings. The favourable micro-climate of the region is owed to the exposition at the foot of the Pfälzerwald mountainside. As a part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, the Pfälzerwald is Germany’s largest continuous forest area and seamlessly merges with the French Northern Vosges. Impressive castle ruins situated alongside pastoral forest passages are contemporary witnesses of the region’s moved past. The first documented vineyard ownership of the family dates back to the year 1648 and exhibits the deep-rootedness of the family in the region. Today, Dr. Josef Köhr cultivates in equal shares white and red grape varieties on a total area of 16 ha. The oldest vineyard plots have been in the family for 200 years and are planted with vines aged up to 40 years. These plots constitute the foundation of the winery’s premium wines. Riesling and Pinot constitute the estate’s most important grape varieties.

The Frey winery is located in the heart of the village Ober- Flörsheim, at the southern border of the Rheinhessen grapegrowing area. Germany’s largest wine country has perfect conditions for growing superior wine grapes and first-class wines. The 100% estate grown wines are organically farmed on various soil types and diverse microclimates. Between Biebelnheim in the north and Ober-Flörsheim in the south, the winery-owned vineyards are spread over 20 km in longitude.
Massive limestone rocks, arose in the tertiary, provide the basis of the terroir. Mineral Rieslings and creamy and delicate Pinots grow on loamey and clayey limestone soils. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are planted on gravely loess soils.
The family history goes back to the 13th century. In 1685 our Huguenot ancestors settled in the South Palatinate. 1990 the estate gradually moved to organic viniculture. In 2000 Manfred Hermann Lind was awarded the honorary title “Oekonomierat” for his outstanding services to the wine-growing industry. Since 2019 the 16th generation Elena Lind joins the winery after studying viticulture and oenology (B. Sc.). As organic wine-growers we treat Mother Nature responsibly. The preservation of the soil and the cultivation of rich animal and plant life (biodiversity) are at the centre of long-lasting wine-growing that produces natural results. By gentle nurturing we allow our wines to develop their own character. Natural purification and doing without special treatment vouch for long enjoyment and pleasure without remorse. They lie in the fine yeast until bottling and so assimilate more minerals, fruity fragrance and bio-active substances.
Many awards confirm our work:

One for all, all for one
“We are the oldest winegrowers’ association in the Palatinate, deeply rooted in the small, picturesque wine town of Deidesheim.” We carry responsibility for tradition and, together with our members, stand for genuine craftsmanship and authentic wines.
Convincing quality — Rieslings and Burgundy varieties from renowned vineyards define us
In total, our winegrowing families cultivate 150 hectares of vineyards around Deidesheim, Ruppertsberg, and Forst. Eighty percent of the vines are white varieties, and 80% of those are Riesling from vineyard sites such as “Paradiesgarten” and “Leinhöhle.” We understand that healthy soils secure our future and serve the environment. Since 2020, we have been certified organic (DE-ÖKO-039).
Our Brand – The Blue Goat
Anyone strolling through Deidesheim will encounter it sooner or later: the goat. It is the symbolic figure of one of the most famous traditions in our region – the Deidesheim Goat Auction. For us, the goat is not simply a trend or a nice motif on a label – it is part of our history. With every label, every sip, and every encounter, we invite you to experience the story of the Deidesheim goat – and to continue writing it together with us and our wines.
